Geography KS3 Map-Skills

Groups of Year 9 pupils prepared a map-skills exercise for Year 7 pupils. The Year 9 pupils prepared ‘packages’ of information about 10 specific locations  found in the local area for example: Hollingworth Lake campsite, Old Trafford etc. The packages included a photograph, a six figure reference, a map symbol and a few facts about the location. Year 9 pupils then used Flip Cameras to record themselves stating the name of the location, the 6 figure reference, the map symbol found at the 6 figure reference and a few facts about the place. The video clips were then converted into a ‘sema-code’ (3-D barcode) for each of the 10 locations. The ‘sema-codes’ were then placed at the 6 figure locations on 1:25,000 OS map of Salford and Manchester.
